Tattooing by a medical professional
Why would this even matter? Let me fill you in on some disturbing facts. I am a Registered Professional Nurse licensed through the Department of Professional Regulations. There is no licensing in Illinois for a tattoo artist. The tattoo studio/shop is licensed by the Department of Public Health, not the artist. The same is true for piercing. There is no formal training or classes for tattooing or piercing required in Illinois. We are only required to complete an hour long online blood borne pathogens class each year. That's it. Scary, huh? Consider that the next time you go to get a tattoo or piercing. An hour to learn about clean vs sterile, hepatitis, HIV, MRSA and other wound infections. Granted a respectable artist has sought better education on their own but our state does not require it.
Using the latest in tattooing technology, The machines and supplies that I utilize allow me to tattoo with with less pain, less trauma to the skin and faster healing times.

Creating a flesh-wound
Moweaqua's one and only licensed tattoo studio
Tattoos are indeed a “Flesh wound” created from injecting pigment into the skin. My studio is discretely located and the client’s privacy within the studio is guaranteed. All needles, needle cartridges, ink caps, and ink are single use and disposable. As a Registered Nurse I have been extensively trained in blood borne diseases, sterile and clean techniques. I ask that the client works with me prior to the date of the tattoo so everything may be in order ahead of time. It is possible, depending on the design, that I may need to special order different colored inks or special needles to best perform the tattoo. Pricing is very design specific and will be discussed early into the process of picking a tattoo.
I have no particular style and enjoy various forms of art. I do enjoy fine line/illustrative tattooing and I prefer black and gray over color but I rarely shy away from any design. Below are a few examples of some of my favorite tattoos that I have done. Many more pics are below in the "Gallery".
I am a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and I am a certified wound care nurse (VWCN). I have been practicing for over 20 years. I am currently a sponsored PRO team artist for PEAK, DISCOVER, and Recovery Aftercare. I have also completed training for advanced 3D Nipple/Areola micro-pigmentation and scar camouflage. I have been involved in tattooing and body modification for over 20 years.
Aftercare of your tattoo
I take pride in my education including blood borne pathogens, clean and sterile techniques and wound care. Your safety is my upmost concern. I use only the best machines, inks and needles that money can buy. What I can do only goes so far though; after the tattoo is applied it is your job to take care of it properly. Aftercare can make or break a tattoo. I will provide Dermor transparent film and ointment for the aftercare of your new tattoo. My products of choice for your tattoo are available @ Fleshwound Tattoo and @ Electrum Tattoo supply.
Aftercare Instructions
-
*Remove clear transparent dressing after 72 hours. If fluid has accumulated under the dressing you may drain the fluid and patch the site with the extra tape. Once you remove the dressing wash with unscented soap or specialty soap and allow it to air dry. May pat dry with a paper towel but do not use a cloth towel.
-
*You may shower as normal. After 24 hours without the transparent dressing, wash the tattoo, allow it to air dry and apply a thin layer of ointment a few times daily or after bathing. Always allow the tattoo to air dry before applying ointment.
-
*Ointments such as Aquaphor and Cetaphil are often recommended. Tattoo specific ointments are always going to be the best option in my opinion i.e. Recovery, Mamba glide, Hustle Butter, Aftermath, Tattoo Goo
-
*Avoid highly concentrated petroleum based products such as A&D ointment, Vaseline, or antibiotic ointments.
-
*Keep your tattoo CLEAN!
-
*Wear loose fitting clothing over the tattooed area.
-
*No long soaks in water for at least 2 weeks.
-
*Avoid sun or tanning beds for at least 2 weeks.
-
*DO NOT pick at scabs or dry skin.
-
*Tattoo should heal in 10-14 days. After the tattoo is healed, moisturize daily and as needed.
-
*Signs of infection include, but not limited to, fever, redness, swelling, warmth to the site, or purulent drainage. If any of these are observed please contact me immediately and have the site evaluated by your physician or emergent care center.
-
*Above all else KEEP the tattoo CLEAN! Ultimately how you care for your new tattoo will determine how it will look in the years to come.

Aftercare Products
Mamba glide is easily one of the best and most effective aftercare products that I have ever used. It is a multi-omega blend that includes omega -3, -6, -7, -9, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, flavonoids, and sea buckthorn. It is also packed with 250mg CBD and infused with sour diesel terpenes. All of these ingredients work together to provide optimal healing of your tattoo. They help to reduce pain and inflammation and support the skin's natural healing process.

Tattoos will normally be scheduled in the order in which I receive them. Piercings are typically scheduled in the evenings. I will NOT schedule an appointment without a design ready. Please inquire as to my current availability. I still caution you to expect at least a few weeks wait for larger tattoos. Small tattoos and piercings I will work in much quicker.
